COPE: Community of Practice Ealing
Meetings: Tuesdays 10-12am
Dates after the summer break 2020: 22 Sept – 6 Oct – 20 Oct – 3 Nov – 17 Nov – 1 Dec – 15 Dec.
We have set up Community of Practice Ealing (COPE) to explore what each of us can do towards a change of culture: How can we create a safe environment to transition from silence to interventions that stop the micro moments of abuse of power?
This group met for the first time in October 2019 when James, Léa, Eva and Milan after a one day conference, imagined what it would be like if we were to continue to process the many roles, the feelings, the powers and the collective dreams that play out in the arena of our lives. The work follows from the landmark conference in October 2018 Growing in Connectedness: Healing the History of Child Sexual Abuse (you can read more about the conference here).
Today we are a group of about 15 individuals from different part of the UK. Since October 2019 we have been meeting roughly every two weeks on Tuesday mornings from 10 to 12. We have been talking about our feelings, our history, the different and unique experiences each of us brings and the challenges we face in safeguarding, creating safe spaces for everyone, and healing the community and the history of child abuse. We have come together to make space for our stories that are so different, and yet belong together. The focus is mostly on understanding the deeper dynamics of how power can be misused, abused or used in a safe way. Not merely by relating through our past stories, but by enquiring as to the roles each of us is expressing and uncovering what is not spoken, but organises the field.
We have come together to continue to enquire: where are we now? and how can we use the relating of our past, today to address conflict in our communities?
Each COPE meeting is facilitated by a pair of facilitators. They are all diplomates or advanced students of Process work conflict transformation and group facilitation (Processwork UK).
COPE is a collaboration of individuals with the support of Act for Change. Our project, part of Growing in Connectedness: London Spring, has received funding from Awards for All.
